Cardiac Care
Wheeling Hospital's cardiac care has consistently been singled out as being among the best in the nation. Because of its ongoing effort to enhance its treatment and preventive measures for heart attack patients and those with congestive heart failure, Wheeling Hospital earned the VHA 2007 Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence. Of the 277 member hospitals nationwide recognized by the VHA with Clinical Excellence awards, the only hospital in West Virginia honored was Wheeling Hospital.
Wheeling Hospital was recognized for distinguishing itself within national standards by achieving a cardiac care performance at the 90 percent or above level on clinical care measures.
For many heart attack and congestive heart failure patients, cardiac rehabilitation is a major step toward full recovery. Wheeling Hospital's Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, begun in 1978, is the longest running such program in the State of West Virginia. Currently, the program serves nearly 50 patients daily.
