Mission

The mission of the Wheeling Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program is to teach family physicians to serve the underserved, rural and urban areas of northern West Virginia and the tri-state area.

Simply stated, WE TEACH AND SERVE.

To accomplish this, we:

• Recruit quality applicants to the residency.
• Transition new physicians from medical school into practice.
• Provide an unopposed Family Medicine residency with a comprehensive curriculum.
• Offer individualized training to meet varied, future practice needs.
• Train allopathic and osteopathic family physicians.
• Train physicians to pass the Family Medicine board certification exam and future recertification.
• Work in a nonprofit, religion-based hospital system committed to Family Medicine values.
• Emphasize a team approach work environment and foster individual and cultural diversity.
• Promote the science and art of Family Medicine.
• Practice compassionate and cost-effective medicine in the patients' best interest.
• Provide each patient a "medical home."
• Provide the community with Family Medicine education.
• Provide advocacy, representation and leadership for the specialty of Family Medicine.

State-of-the-Art Program

The Wheeling Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program is a fully accredited program covering three years of residency training. Residents receive a wide variety of training at the 276-bed facility with state-of-the-art programs and equipment.
