Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary Hosting Motivational Speaker

September 1, 2017

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Auxiliary of Wheeling Hospital is bringing to Wheeling nationally acclaimed motivational speaker and author Donna Tyson, who will speak on “Life’s Balance Wheel.”

The Oct. 24 event, open to the public, will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the White Palace at Wheeling Park. Tickets are $10 each, and hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

All proceeds will benefit the Oncology Fund of Wheeling Hospital’s Schiffler Cancer Center. The fund is used to help patients and their families with various needs during cancer treatment.

Caroll Mazure, Auxiliary president, said Tyson spoke at the Auxiliary of West Virginia Hospital Association’s spring workshop at Stonewall Resort, where she inspired and uplifted the Auxiliary delegates.

“She draws on her experiences as a former TV and radio personality, successful business owner, community leader, missionary, cancer survivor, mother and grandmother for her thought-provoking life lessons,” Mazure said. “We were left spellbound by her stories of empowerment.”

Tyson travels the country as a motivational speaker while promoting her first children’s book on pride and self-esteem entitled “The Red Bow.” In 2012, she sold everything she owned and moved to Haiti for 10 months as a missionary. In the spring of 2014, she was diagnosed with an aggressive triple negative breast cancer and has spent two years in chemotherapy and healing treatments. She now resides in Surfside Beach, SC, where she hosts women’s renewal retreats and leads spiritual support group meetings for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. She was named the 2015 Grand Strand Happening Now Mover & Shaker award winner for going above and beyond the call to make a big difference in her community.

Her many clients have included the CIA, FBI, departments of Transportation and Education, Society of Human Resource Management, Mayo Clinic, USC University Hospital, Carilion Healthcare, Bell Atlantic and the American Red Cross.

Tyson was voted 2008 Best of the Beach Inspirational Speaker by the Myrtle Beach Herald and was previously named one of SHRM’s Top 10 highest rated speakers. She was a monthly featured writer on work/life balance issues in the South Carolina Woman Magazine for 11 years.
