HCH Workshop to Provide Diet Tips for Diabetics and Their Family Members
October 18, 2018
CADIZ – To mark National Diabetes Month, the November Lunch & Learn workshop at Harrison Community Hospital (HCH) will focus on the disease and ways to treat it.
“High Blood Sugar, Diabetes and Your Body” will be presented in a slide show at noon Nov. 1 in the HCH cafeteria.
“Diabetes is a condition in which sugar levels in your body are high. It is this sugar, also known as glucose, that fuels your body. It travels in your blood to all your body’s organs. Insulin, a hormone, helps this sugar move from your blood stream into your cells,” said Community Nurse Educator Carol A. Teter, RN.
The 2017 National Diabetes Statistics Report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that diabetes affects more than 30 million people in the U.S. Of that number, 7.2 million are undiagnosed. In addition, diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death.
Lunch & Learn Workshops are always held on the first Thursday of every month except December. Attendees may bring their lunch or buy one in the cafeteria. A snack and beverages will be provided. Reservations are not needed.
The next workshop will be held Jan. 3
HCH is a division of Wheeling Hospital.
