Financial Support Given to CRC

December 20, 2018

The City of Wheeling and the Wheeling-Ohio County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) are among the various financial supporters of the 12th annual Cancer Research Classic (CRC) set for Jan. 4-5 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling. Last year, attendees to the CRC accounted for $1.5 million in revenues for local restaurants, hotels and other businesses. The CRC features the nation’s top rated high school basketball teams and players, many of them furthering their playing careers at major colleges and within the professional ranks. The CRC was founded and directed by Dr. Gregory Merrick of the Schiffler Cancer Center at Wheeling Hospital. Presenting checks to Merrick, center, are from left, CVB Executive Director Frank O’Brien and Wheeling City Manager Robert Herron. CRC proceeds help fund ongoing prostate cancer and men’s health research at the Urologic Research Institute at Wheeling Hospital and academic scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled at Wheeling Jesuit University.
