CADIZ – “Healthy Eating to Control Diabetes” is the topic of the next Lunch & Learn workshop April 4 at Harrison Community Hospital (HCH).
Scheduled for noon-1 p.m. in the HCH cafeteria, the program will feature Jill Spangler, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. She will share information on why it is important to be mindful of what we eat, when we eat, and how much we eat. Educational handouts will be provided.
According to the American Diabetes Association, eating well is one of life's greatest pleasures. Having diabetes shouldn't keep people from enjoying a wide variety of foods, including some of their favorites.
“People with diabetes have the same nutritional needs as anyone else,” Spangler said. “Learn to plan your meals to help you manage your diabetes, and you can thrive with diabetes.”
Topics covered will include portion control, moderation, variety and balance.
Lunch & Learn workshops are always held on the first Thursday of every month except December. Attendees may bring their lunch or buy one in the cafeteria. A snack and beverages will be provided. Reservations are not needed.
The May 2 workshop, “Hospice 101,” will be presented by Valley Hospice.
HCH is a division of Wheeling Hospital.
