2nd Annual Women’s Health Holiday Basketball Classic set for Late December

WHEELING – The 2nd annual Wheeling Hospital Women’s Health Holiday Basketball Classic, for area girls high school and grade school basketball teams, is set for Dec. 28. The event is sponsored by Wheeling Hospital and Harrison Community Hospital
Six high school teams, as well as six 7th and six 8th grade teams, will play at Harrison Central High School in Cadiz. Proceeds from the event benefit Wheeling Hospital’s Cardiac Resource Fund and the Patient Oncology Fund.
The Cardiac Resource Fund is used to assist participants in Wheeling Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. The Patient Oncology Fund helps patients and their families with various needs during cancer treatment.
At the event will be many women’s health-related informational booths on subjects such as skin health, heart disease and healthy lifestyles.
Helping to organize the event is Serge Gentile, Wheeling Hospital employee and coach of Shadyside Girls Basketball. He said, “We are excited about the opportunity to participate again in the Wheeling Hospital Women’s Health Holiday Classic. It’s an event that showcases girls basketball and allows us to play in a tournament style atmosphere. It will also be an additional bonus playing at Harrison Central High School. I know a lot of those people from my days coaching out there, and I know the new school and gym are second to none.”
The games will be played in both the main gym and junior high gym at Harrison Central. The schedules are as follows:
Main Gym, Girls Varsity
Noon – Barnesville vs. St. Clairsville
1:45 p.m. – Buckeye Local vs. Harrison Central
3:30 p.m. – Shadyside vs. Wheeling Park
Junior High Gym, 7th and 8th Grades
10 a.m. – Barnesville vs. St. Clairsvillle (7th grade)
11:15 a.m. – Barnesville vs. St. Clairsville (8th grade)
12:30 p.m. – Shadyside vs. Harrison Central (7th grade)
1:45 p.m. – Shadyside vs. Harrison Central (8th grade)
Other activities being planned are t-shirt sales, concession stand and prizes.
Tickets for the event are $5 for the entire day. Parking is free.
