HealthTeam to Provide New Patient Transport Service to Wheeling Hospital

May 12, 2020

WHEELING, W.Va. – HealthTeam Critical Care Transport is opening a new base in the region to ensure medical ground transportation services are readily available to patients.

The HealthTeam CCT Wheeling base will open May 18 and will create up to 60 new jobs, including full-time and part-time positions for EMTs and paramedics as well as leadership positions. The crew base facility will be conveniently located near Wheeling Hospital and is designed to house up to six transport vehicles.

“We realize local EMS services are working at full capacity right now and growth in volume at Wheeling Hospital continues to climb. Moving patients in and out of the facility in an expeditious manner is critical to the efficient management of any hospital,” said Douglass Harrison, CEO of Wheeling Hospital. “Having another transportation option in the market available to us will further enhance the care we can provide our patients.”

HealthTeam CCT is investing nearly $1.4 million to purchase vehicles and equipment for the new facility. Recruitment of base leaders and experienced EMTs and paramedics is underway and will continue through the coming weeks.

“Considering HealthTeam’s outstanding reputation for excellence in clinical care and safety in the transport environment, we are confident we will meet the needs of the community,” said Clinton Burley, president and CEO of HealthTeam Critical Care Transport. “As the only nationally accredited ground ambulance service in West Virginia, we’re excited to bring this level of patient care to the greater Wheeling area.”

With two hospitals, eight health centers, the Continuous Care Center and Howard Long Wellness Center, Wheeling Hospital provides premium health care to residents of Wheeling and Eastern Ohio. Wheeling Hospital provides a wide range of services, including its Surgical Center, Center for Pediatrics, Center for Women’s Services and Emergency/Trauma Center, as well as the comprehensive Schiffler Cancer Center, Heart and Vascular Center and full-service cardiac catheterization lab.
