Howard Long Wellness Center Installs Added COVID Protection
August 31, 2020
WHEELING, WV — A new disinfectant technology in use at Wheeling Hospital’s Howard Long Wellness Center is providing members the optimum workout experience.
AirPHX eliminates nearly all bacteria, viruses and other germs, and the odors they cause, in the air and on surfaces, including rubber, turf, foam and tile. It is 100% organic and harmless, providing over 95% reduction of germs.
“This patented technology provides another significant layer of protection against COVID to supplement our ongoing efforts,” said Joe Slavik, HLWC director. “It means that we can now provide the safest indoor exercise environment possible.”
Three AirPHX units have been installed in strategic locations throughout the center to ensure that all square footage of HLWC is covered by the system on a 24/7 basis.
The system uses atmospheric cold plasma to change a small percentage of the oxygen molecules in the air into a unique spectrum of oxidizing molecules that kill bacteria, viruses and mold. First, the pathogens are destroyed as the air circulates through the unit. Then air containing oxidizing molecules circulate in the treatment space. Organisms are eliminated in the air and surfaces throughout the room.
Slavik said the AirPHX is part of the HLWC’s 5 “Ws” against COVID-19:
• Wear a mask to greatest extent possible.
• Wash your hands frequently.
• Wipe off contact points on equipment with disinfectant.
• Watch your physical distancing: at least 6 feet apart.
• Ward off COVID-19 with AirPHX technology.
