Wheeling Hospital Giving Heart Walk 2020 New Look; Still Aims to Take Strides to Save Lives
September 4, 2020
WHEELING, WV — While Wheeling Hospital is once again the main sponsor of this year’s Heart Walk, the event has necessarily taken on a decidedly different appearance.
Instead of a gathering of people in support of the walk and its mission to make significant donations to the American Heart Association, participating teams are adapting to COVID restrictions by developing unique ways to participate. In Wheeling Hospital’s case, the team is participating in Walk Wednesday.
Every Wednesday from Sept. 16 through Oct. 14, team members are challenged to walk a course of their choosing. Afterward the walkers will submit photos of their weekly excursion for posting on the hospital Facebook page to set an example of how to stay healthy while staying safe.
The walkers are encouraged to participate in a fundraising challenge to help increase the donations. Prizes, including one free month at the Howard Long Wellness Center, are being awarded for various donation levels. Also every Wednesday, team representatives will be selling special Wheeling Hospital Heart Walk t-shirts and face masks in the main lobby.
In addition, a raffle is being held for Lunch with the CEO.
We are extremely proud to once again sponsor the American Heart Association Heart Walk,” said hospital CEO Douglass Harrison. “The Heart Walk will look different this year due to COVID pandemic; however, the purpose of the walk is needed now more than ever, and that is to raise money to support research in heart disease. Unfortunately our community and our state have a high propensity for heart disease, and our partnership with AHA goes a long way in bringing vital resources to our community. Please join us this year for the Heart Walk as we are ‘going the social distance’ together.”
Wheeling Hospital’s Heart Walk 2020 team is not limited to employees. Family, friends and community members are encouraged to join or help sponsor a member.
The Heart Walk is the AHA’s premier event for raising funds to save lives from this country's No. 1 and No. 5 killers - heart disease and stroke.
