Wheeling Hospital Off-Site COVID Clinic Now Testing For Strep, Flu and RSV
October 1, 2020
WHEELING, WV — Wheeling Hospital’s off-site COVID Testing Center is now testing for strep throat, influenza, COVID and, on high-risk children, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).
RSV is a common, and very contagious, virus that infects the respiratory tract of most children before their second birthday. For most babies and young children, the infection causes nothing more than a cold. But for a small percentage, infection with RSV can lead to serious, sometimes life-threatening problems such as pneumonia or bronchiolitis, an inflammation of the small airways of the lungs.
Patients who call the COVID hotline and who have respiratory symptoms such as fever, congestion sore throat, loss of smell or taste will be tested for strep, flu and COVID. Children under 2 will also be tested for RSV. Patients will have same-day results for strep, flu and RSV.
Everyone will be swabbed three times for the increased tests.
The drive-through center is located at the former Harmony House, next to Valley Professional Center South at the old OVMC. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the week and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. To reach the site, those being tested will drive up 22nd Street to behind the old Valley Professional Center South, turn left at the top of the hill and follow the signs.
Those wishing to be tested must first pre-register. A convenient way to do that is to go to WheelingHospital.org and click on COVID-19 Testing – Register Here. Those unable to register online may also call the hotline at 304-221-3995.
Wheeling Hospital has been conducting off-site COVID testing since March 18, first at Wheeling Park and now at its new location. Since opening, the site has conducted more than 13,000 tests.
