Orthopedic Surgeon Joins Staff at Wheeling Hospital

WHEELING, W.Va. – Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Zilles has joined the staff at Wheeling Hospital.
“Dr. Zilles brings a world of experience to our orthopedic team. Since his recent arrival, he already is making a name for himself among our patients because of his skill and caring, friendly attitude,” said Ron Violi, hospital chief executive officer.
In addition to Zilles, the hospital’s orthopedic surgical team includes Dr. Robert Zaleski, Dr. Derek Andreini, Dr. Dirk Slade and Dr. Eli Hothem.
“I am happy with the warm welcome given by Wheeling Hospital and the community, and look forward to serving them well for many years to come,” Zilles said.
Before moving to Wheeling, Zilles worked at Adirondack Medical Center in New York and Sampson Regional Medical Center in North Carolina. From 2001-10, he also served as an assistant clinical professor in orthopedic surgery at Duke University.
Zilles received a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Duke University and his medical degree from George Washington Medical School. He performed a surgery internship at Mount Sinai Hospital New York, and his orthopedic surgery residency at SUNY Brooklyn Health Science Center. He also completed a sports medicine fellowship.
Recently, Wheeling Hospital was ranked in the top 10 percent nationally in Orthopedic Surgery for patient safety, and rated the best in the Wheeling area for medical excellence. The ranking is from data from CareChex, a rating service of The Delta Group.
