Dr. Robert Fanning is a well-known and respected interventional cardiologist. In addition to his offices in Wheeling and Martins Ferry, Dr. Fanning is director of Cardiac Services at Wheeling Hospital. At the hospital’s Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab, he is one of three interventional cardiologists who routinely diagnose and treat chest pain and heart attack. Dr. Fanning played a key role in the hospital’s designation as the region’s only Certified Chest Pain Center (with PCI) and its accreditation as one of only 16 U.S. hospitals named a Mission Lifeline: Heart Attack Receiving Center, primarily for its quick and effective treatment of the most deadly type of heart attack. In 2009, Dr. Fanning was named a West Virginia “Health Care Hero” by The State Journal. Outside of his practice, he volunteers a tremendous amount of time each year working with area emergency squads to enhance their cardiac care, as well as speaking to groups throughout the area to better educate the public about cardiac care.
