Patient Responsibilities

All patients have the following responsibilities:
  • Complete and correct information about your health
    • Past illnesses, surgeries, hospital stays
    • Past allergic reactions
    • Medicines you take including items you can buy without a prescription
    • Up to date insurance information
  • Listen carefully to teaching about your medications, diet, and therapy.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand your treatment or what you are expected to do
  • Follow the treatment plan from your doctor and tell us if you do not think you can follow that plan

  • Report pain to the hospital staff. Help the staff to find the best ways to decrease your pain and discomfort
  • Follow the hospital rules. Be considerate of other patients and staff
    • Keep noise down in order to maintain a healing environment for others and yourself
    • Conversations with your health care team should be mutually respectful
    • Respect hospital property and equipment
    • Do not bother other patients or their belongings
    • Smoking is not allowed anywhere on hospital property
  • Work with the hospital as needed on billing and insurance claims
  • Work with hospital staff to pay for care not covered by insurance

Wheeling Hospital Volunteers

Nearly 400 volunteers donate their time to help in many areas of Wheeling Hospital. For a number of years, the hours of service given by the volunteers at the hospital have exceeded those found at any other hospital in West Virginia.
